It's a mudbath getting the piglets weaned!

On Monday, after a week-end of heavy rain, we decided to wean the piglets, so we set about separating them from Squeaky, their mum, and giving them a little injection. No problem - Squeaky trotted off to a nice quiet pen leaving the babies to be collected, picked up, and injected.

We made a little holding pen and started the round-up, only to find that piglets in a muddy field who don't want to be rounded-up present a problem because a pig can move much quicker than a man in wellies, and a muddy pig is a slippery pig. Next came the doctoring - for which we recruited Donna (on the basis that she is good with horses and has nimble fingers) - Nurse Donna applied the worming jab and Lee popped the patients over the fence into their new pen.

The 'weaners' are happily digging up as many roots and grubs as they can find, but not for long as they go to new homes at the end of the week. Only  two will be staying on; Digger, the first born and a sturdy little boar, and Dora (left), who has been adopted by Helen and Alan.
